Japan Display has begun mass producing WQHD (2,560 by 1,440) panels and is expected to begin shipments in April 2014, according to industry sources.The panels will be 5.5-inch ones featuring 538ppi, the sources said, adding that JDI has plans to produce other sizes of the technology later in 2014.The sources did not reveal who the shipments will be allocated to, but there is market speculation stating the panels will be shipped to China-based handset vendors who are reportedly looking to further combat Samsung Electronics in the high-end smartphone segment in 2014.
