DigiTimesによると、韓国Samsung Displayと韓国LG Display(LGD)は第8.5世代(8.5G)対応の量産ラインを中国に建設するという。SamsungはSuzhouに新ラインを建設、2013年末までに量産を開始する見込み(生産能力は90Ks/月)。
LGDはGuangzhouに建設し、2014年中頃には量産を開始する模様(生産能力は120Ks/月)。LG,SkyworthそしてGuangzhou政府が出資する。
Korea-based panel maker Samsung Display is expected to have its new 8.5G line in Suzhou, China go into mass production by the end of 2013 while LG Display's new 8.5G line in Guangzhou, China is expected to enter mass production by the middle of 2014, according to industry sources.
The sources said Samsung has been working with the local government in Suzhou to allow it to construct its 8.5G line, and has reportedly been required by the government to use all new facilities. The sources estimated that due to the requirements, the 8.5G line will most likely finish being constructed by May 2013 and will enter mass production by the end of the year. The line is expected to produce 90,000 substrates a month.
LG meanwhile is still constructing its new 8.5G line in Guangzhou. The plant is being built with funding provided by LG, China-based TV vendor Skyworth as well as from the People's Government of Guangdong Province. The plant will reportedly cost US$4 billion by the end of its expected completion in the middle of 2014 and is expected to produce 120,000 substrates a month, added the sources.
