Panel makers expected to slow down production in 1Q13 to prevent further price decreases
Panel makers based in Taiwan, China and Korea are expected to reduce production by 5-15% throughout the first quarter of 2013 in order to prevent panel prices from dropping even further, according to industry sources.
The panel makers are reportedly expecting to see a decline in shipments from the end of December 2012 throughout the first quarter in 2013 due to an expected slowdown in demand after the year-end holidays in North America. The panel makers have also largely supplied various China-based vendors enough panels for expected demand during the Lunar New Year holiday, said the sources.
As a result, panel makers throughout Asia are expected to slow down production in the first quarter of 2013, with LG Display expected to cut back roughly 10-15%. China-based panel makers BOE and China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) are each expected to reduce theirs output by 5%, noted the sources.
However, the numbers are expected to decrease by the second quarter of the year in anticipation for increased demand, added the sources.
